What is the difference between magnetic and friction resistance?

When it comes to resistance systems in stationary bikes, there are typically two main types:

    • Magnetic
    • Friction

The magnetic resistance system uses magnets to create resistance as you pedal. The resistance level is adjusted by moving the magnets closer to or farther away from the flywheel. One of the big advantages of magnetic resistance is its quiet operation.

The friction resistance relies on pads or brake pads that press against the flywheel to create resistance. Adjusting the resistance typically involves tightening or loosening these pads. Friction resistance can provide a more road-like feel since the resistance increases as you pedal harder, mimicking the experience of riding outdoors. However, it can be a bit noisier than magnetic resistance.

Magnetic vs Friction: Which Spin Bike Resistance is Best for You?

Do the seat and handlebars adjust vertically and horizontally?

Our S2 magnetic bike allows for the seat and handlebars to be adjusted not just vertically but horizontally as well! This allows for a wide range of user heights to find a perfect fit!

Does my S2 bike need to be plugged in to function?

The S2 magnetic bike needs to be plugged into function. Without being plugged in, the screen and resistance will not work. You will have a power cord that must be plugged into the rear of the bike, between the stabilizer legs.

*Please note that you should always avoid extension cords, and plug the bike directly into a wall outlet.

If you are looking for a cordless option, our S1 friction Spin Bike will be a great choice as it does not require to be plugged in to function. The manual resistance and the batteries in the monitor of the S1 Spin Bike will function without a power source.

What apps can I use with my S2 Magnetic Spin bike?

    We recommend three main applications!

    Rouvy, Kinomap and Zwift.

If you are looking for automatic resistance then we recommend using Kinomap. This will allow you to feel the resistance increase and decrease with every hill.

Is there any difference between the white and black Ascend S2 Magnetic Spin Bike other than its color?

The only difference between the white and black S2 Magnetic Spin Bike is the color, all features and components are the same.

How do I connect my S2 to applications?

To pair your bluetooth monitor to your devices, please follow the instructions below:

    1. Make sure the APP you want to use with your S2 is an FTMS-compatible application such as Kinomap or Zwift. To connect your bike to an application, you don't need to select the bike in your device's Bluetooth settings. Simply make sure that Bluetooth is activated and that the bike monitor is on.
    2. Please open the app you will use on your device to find and connect your S2. Please see attached screen shots of the connection process using the APP Kinomap.
    3. If your S2 still does not appear in the app, please restart your device and your S2 monitor and repeat steps 1 to 3.
    4. If your S2 still does not appear in the app, please restart your device and your S2 monitor and repeat steps 1 to 3 using a different App.

How do I pair my heart-rate monitor?

Pairing your heart rate monitor is quite straight forward:

    1. Remove any protective films or plastics that may prevent the battery from working, which usually happens when you first open the monitor
    2. Ensure a battery is inserted in the heart rate monitor
    3. Put the heart rate monitor on. In order for the heart rate monitor to emit a signal, it needs to have a pulse reading from your body
    4. Open your bike monitor by pressing on the menu button (3 bars)
    5. Hold the Bluetooth button for 3 seconds
When the monitor is paired, you will heart a beep sound.
    6. You need to wait for about 40 - 60 seconds for the heart rate monitor to register enough pulse data to send data to the monitor. Your monitor will remain paired for the session

If you're unable to hear the beep sound after holding the Bluetooth button for 3 seconds, long press the restart button (rounded arrow) to restart the monitor

If you're still unable to pair your heart rate monitor, unplug the bike and restart the process.

*** Please note that the bike is currently tested to work with our own Heart Rate monitor. If you wish to use your own heart rate monitor or any other Bluetooth / Ant+ devices, the compatibility is not guaranteed. ***
